Shehu Sule College of nursing and midwifery is a college for nursing and midwifery located in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, along Gujba road opposite Yobe State Specialist Hospital. This college was established as a School of Nursing in Oct 1993, in 30th June 2011 it attained collegial status under the administration of His Excellency Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam in-line with the present Nursing Education Reforms in Nigeria. Basic Midwifery programme was created in March 2015 and its first set of students graduated in March 2018 on the other hand, Community Midwifery began in March 2018 with the aim of meeting the gap in manpower in the state. The college is health institution own by the state and is situated in Damaturu, the capital city of Yobe State.

For twenty four years, the college has been graduating Nurses, Midwives and Community Midwives who can be found working within and outside the country at large. It is calculated that the college has so far graduated 21 set of Nurses, four set of Midwives and one set of Community Midwives.

Admission Requirements

We are excited to let you know that The Admission Management of the School of Nursing, Dr. Shehu Sule, Damaturu has released the Admission Form for 2023/2024 Academic year online. Applicants must get at least a D (4) in six subjects. Also, they must have passes in at least 3 subjects, one of the passes should be Grade D or possibly at the ´A´ Levels.

Basic Nursing

The requirements needed for this programme are five credits in SSCE (English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) WAEC, NECO, NECO/ WAEC and NABTEB which must not be more than two sittings. However, the candidate must be a Registered Midwife or Mental Health Nurse.

Community Midwifery

The requirement for this program is two credits in English and Biology, and any other two credits in science subjects from WAEC and NECO or NABTEB.

Community Nursing

The requirements for this programme is Two credits in English and Biology and two credits in any science subjects from WAEC, NECO or NABTEB.

Requirements For Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing Programme

Interested candidates who want apply for this programme must meet up with the following requirements, which includes;

  • Candidates must be a registered nurse.
  • Candidates must meet up with the admission requirements of the admitting schools of psychiatric nursing in Nigeria.
  • Candidates must go through a year of full training/schooling.

Requirements For Bachelor Of Nursing Science

To get the bachelor of nursing science, candidates must meet up with the following requirements:

  • Candidates must have up to 5 credits in SSCE including in subjects as English, Mathematics and other science subjects.
  • Candidates must go through 5 years of schooling/training program.
  • Then the candidate will have to go for a compulsory one year internship program in a Registered Health care institution.
